Feedback From Class On Our Prezi Of Our Thriller Idea

Feedback:

- Classmates said the Prezi was unclear and not cohesive and therefore made each bullet point of the opening sequence seem like a different scene. 

-They also said after they saw the story board it helped to clarify the main features of the sequence and helped them to understand the idea.

-Additionally, they also elaborated that they extremely liked the idea of the cross cut to the mafia boss in a different location to show his superiority. This therefore showing that the two mafia workers (part of the family) shown in one of the cross cuts are clearly working for the mafia boss, giving the basis of the rest of the film.

-After receiving the valuable feedback we will edit our Prezi and even add additional detail, making it much clearer and cohesive including all of the camera shots, editing techniques, mise-en-scene and sound.

The scene starts with a mid-shot of Sully the pilot along with dark lighting gives of the effect that something bad is going to happen on the flight. This is highlighted by the diegetic sound of the pilot repeating 'we have lost both engines' further emphasising that there is a serious problem. There is then a wide shot of the plane and an Ariel shot over the city showing that the planes engines are on fire and that the plane could crash into the main city. This is followed by a wide shot again showing how ,low they are and the potential danger they are in. There is close-ups of Both the pilot and his co-pilot highlighting the panic on their faces, while at the same time the light is flickering and it is very dark which adds to the tension of the scene. As the action picks up its pace there are cross cuts between the pilots the screaming passengers and the view of the city this is to show all the people in danger if the plane were to crash, the quick cuts increase the speed of the scene making it more exciting. The plane then crashes into the side of a building right in the city where there is a huge explosion with fire and people in the streets indicating more people could get hurt while screams of the people on the streets can be heard. Sharply followed by the pilot quickly waking up showing this was all a dream but the dark lighting and the panic on his face indicate that something bad has or will happen to him.

Three point lighting

Three point lighting is a technique used in film and forms the basis of most lighting. The technique uses three lights called the key light, fill light and back light. To fully utilise the technique you will need all there lights but the principles still remain even if you have only have one or two lights. All three lights have their own purpose: Key light- is the 'main light' source on the subject; fill light- This light helps the 'key light' by filling in the shadows created by the key light and preventing it from getting too dark; back light-  The 'back light' ensures the subject is separated clearly from the background.

Analysis and explanation of the opening credits of 2 films

Drive (2011)
The opening credits of the drive is a in the traditional style
The sequence starts with a view of a big city showing that is where the movie will be set and not in an isolated location.
The credits then start and the firs name is the lead actor which is Ryan gosling, who attracts many people to see the film and then they have a low angle shot of him showing his authority and that he will be the lead in the film.
Then we see the title over the same shot of Ryan gosling again re emphasising he is the main character and his importance to the film, also he is driving and the film is called the drive so it also highlights this significance.
This is followed by the rest of the credits of the names of all the people who had a significant effect and impact on the making of the film. The credits were in a weirdly shaped font and in pink colour to help them stand out as it there was dark lighting. There was also upbeat and non-diegetic music to show there will be action in the film.
It was a traditional opening sequence because the title of the film and the font of the credits suggested the genre of the film and the sound created a mood that there will be action as the music was upbeat throughout and even increased and became more upbeat as it went on.

The main purpose of this specific opening sequence of skyfall is to get the audience into the mood of the film but at the same time not to give to much away. The whole sequence takes place under water with key conventions of a thriller such a blood, guns, dark lighting and death indicating the genre and recurring themes of the film. Throughout the film there is non-diegetic music which is a song sung by Adele, the music is quite sinister but grows in pace and beat. The sequence involves many key themes of the film and of the action, thriller genre but doesn't reveal much.

A thriller is a genre, with an exciting plot and typically involves crime, murder and action. Thriller films always contain suspense and anticipation with the main objective to keep the audience alert and on the edge of their seats. Most thriller plots centre around a protagonist with a problem which can include a mission he has to complete or trying to find the antagonist but the film will always emphisise the danger the protagonist faces. The film is filled with heated action and nail biting scenes that usually build up to a grand stand finish to the film with either the protagonist or antagonist come out on top. Within the thriller genre there are many subgenres as there are many different types of thriller films.

Thriller subgenres

Medical Thriller

Involves something medical, for example a deadly virus leaking out to the public and the protagonist is trying to find a cure to stop the virus.

Psychological Thriller

A lot of the conflict is mental, not phsyical, where the protagonist must overcome their opponent using their mental prowess and wit. They become involved in a dangerous situation which may effect their sanity.

Mystery Thriller

Both mysteries and thrillers, however much more fast paced with the protagonist potentially on the run and the threat of another crime serving as the “ticking clock.”

Supernatural Thriller

The plot line and suspense is the same to normal thrillers, however some characters may have supernatural characteristics such as psychic powers.

Romantic Thriller

Follows a typical thrillers plot line, suspense and excitemetnt however throughout you see the growth in relationship between to characters.

Disaster Thriller

A natural disaster takes place and the antagonist usually tries to save himself, whereas the protagonist will save others and resolve the disaster.

A thriller that en tales a lot of action. E.g. A movie that may contain explosions as these appeal to the public.

Political Thriller

Political relations and entire governements are at stake where the protagnist is usually hired by the government to protect and save the governement(s).

Eco-Thriller

The protagonist must stop a threat that could have massive consequence, locally, nationally or worldwide.

Spy Thriller

Focuses on the high adventures of field agents and is usually set after some war or big world event.

Legal Thriller

Usually takes place in and around the courtroom, where the protagonist is mostly a lawyer trying to protect their own or their clients lives.

Conspiracy Thriller

Where the main protagonist is the only one who knows the truth and must fight to overcome a bigger and more powerful organisation.
