Audience Feedback

Here is some audience feedback from a facebook post of my opening sequence, overall we received lots of positive feedback.

Lots of these comments were very useful feedback and things that we wanted people to see and feel when watching our film. From the first picture one of the comments talks about are use of shots, and sound to build up tension and suspense which is exactly what we tried to do. Many comments were of people telling us they really enjoyed the film and how professional it looked which made me very happy as we worked hard to do the most professional job as possible. Another comment compared it to Goodfellas which again is really positive as this was a huge inspiration to us a group. The last few comments were the most effective in terms of feedback as one pointed out although he was probably joking when calling it 'racist' this is one of the key themes in our film and we wanted to show who was superior and inferior in society so it was very pleasing that someone was able to pick up on this. Lastly we had a comment praising the voice over, which was something that we used to make our film be different to the generic thriller film and stand out. Overall the feedback was very positive and i am personally very happy people enjoyed and our film that we worked really hard to make.

Film Poster 1

The main purpose of this film poster is for people to see it and feel like they have to find out more about our film. This means it was important to make sure the film poster gives an accurate reflection of the themes and genre of our movie without giving too much away. We have included key convention of thriller films in our poster to represent the thriller genre such as: dark lighting, guns, red (blood), dark and red clouds symbolising danger and smart clothes which hints at mafia or detective. All these are key themes of a thriller film which will attract are primary audience as they enjoy thriller films and will see that this poster represents a thriller film. To an attract a secondary audience it is important to include more then just the ordinary thriller conventions. For example we have include a handsome male on the front to attract a larger female audience. Also the actor on the poster is of a younger age, as he is holding the gun this creates a lot of mystery as why is a younger boy having to use a gun which alongside the film poster title springs a lot of ideas to mind and this mystery and feeling of wanting to know the answers to the questions this poster creates helps attract a secondary audience. Another very important aspect is the background to the poster it is very telling and symbolises danger right when you first see it. First of all it is at night time which that itself adds danger as it is dark and more dangerous with extremely dark black clouds which makes it more spooky. Furthermore the red clouds really stand out next to the black and red symbolises danger, blood and death which all feature in our film. In this poster we really wanted the genre thriller to stick out but at the same time leave a few other clues about the storyline to attract a secondary audience for example as it is a young boy people may feel sympathy with him which might attract a female audience or a younger audience.

Film poster 2

Our second film poster really appeals to our primary and secondary audience for lots of different reasons. Firstly we included a few thriller conventions in the film poster to highlight the film is a thriller film to attract our primary audience who love thriller films in particular. These conventions include; blood, suits and mystery, these are all things that are regularly associated with thriller films and can be easily identified with our film to sow the specific genre. Another aspect of our poster is the famous landmark Big Ben right in the middle of the poster firstly it shows the film is set in London which is important information but a lot isn't explained and i think there is a big mystery why Big Ben features which will attract an audience to find out. Our secondary audience who is of an older age group including 30s and 40s also including a female audience will be attracted by the two good looking male actors on the poster. This will attract a secondary audience as they will want to see the actors on top of discovering the mystery that is left from the poster. This is another key concept from the film poster, it is very mysterious and nothing is given away only half the faces are shown which symbolises not all will be as it seems or they are hiding something. Furthermore, the background is white and reveals nothings which adds to the unknowing and that anything could happen. The pink title is in a mystery font which is one of our themes but the pink colour which fits nicely in the poster in a very subtle way doesn't attract too much attention to the title so people see the whole poster but the colour sticks out enough to catch peoples attention, also resonating well with a younger adult audience in their early twenties as it is usually a colour for younger people. I believe that the most important aspect of the poster that will ensure we will attract both our primary and secondary audience  is the key conventions of a thriller that are shown or subtlety hinted at in the poster such as; blood which hints at death, smart suits which hints at mafia or detective and Big Ben which hints at terror attack or corruption in the political system. So many different thriller films can be made from our poster and this should help bring a wide audience to come see our film.

perfect audience member:
From our earlier research based on the target audience of similar films to ours such as Goodfellas and the Godfather we discovered that most of our target audience will be male and between the ages of 23-29.

I have created a facebook profile of someone who is likely to be a fan of our film referred to as our 'perfect audience member'

This is the main facebook profile of our 'perfect audience member' John Allen.

This is the profile picture of John this is him at his workplace. As described in his description below John loves gaming and works at video game testers and designers.

This is some information about John: he currently is a tester for video game testers and design, studied game theorist at Nottingham Trent university and lives in London in the UK.

This is John's description of himself and his hobbies on his facebook page: 'My name is John Allen and i am 25 years old currently working for video game testers and design. I studied at Nottingham Trent university and somehow got a degree in game theorists. My passions include gaming, films and technology. My favourite films and games are Grand theft auto and Goodfellas. I hope to eventually create my own successful action video game thats the dream.'

Overview:
John Allen is a 25 year old male from London, United Kingdom and is currently working as a game tester for video game testers and design. He studied at Nottingham Trent university and got his degree in game theorists. He hopes one day he will be able to create his own violent/action video game this is his main objective. His favourite musicians include: 'Artic Monkeys' and 'The Smiths' this is because he is a very big fan of rock music. His favourite films include: 'The Big Lebowski', 'Pulp fiction', 'reservoir dogs' and 'Goodfellas'. His favourite TV programmes include: 'Game of Thrones' and 'Line of duty'. His favourite Apps and games include: 'Clash of war', 'Call of duty' and 'Grand theft Auto'.

Why would John Allen like my film?
I believe he is our 'perfect audience member' and would really like our film for a number of reasons. Firstly John is a 25 year old male which is in the range of 23-29 of the ages from our research based on films similar to ours would most enjoy and see our film. John is also a huge fan of technology, gaming and films which makes him more likely to go and watch our film in the cinema. His job as a gamer highlights his love for technology and media as he is doing it for a profession and he even studied it at university. Someone is more likely to be a fan of films and to go watch my film in the cinema if they aren't very sporty and are more of a technology and indoor person which John is. Furthermore a lot can be highlighted from Johns favourites on his facebook page and tells me a lot of why he is highly likely to enjoy my film. John's favourite musicians include: 'Artic Monkeys' and 'The Smiths', these are both rock bands emphasising John's love of rock music. Rock music is associated with violence showing that John would prefer a violent action pact film as that is what his favourite style of music is catered towards. His favourite films include: 'The Big Lebowski', 'Pulp fiction', 'reservoir dogs' and 'Goodfellas', again all these films are similar to my film in different ways and reservoir dogs and especially Goodfellas were big inspirations behind my film and follow very similar story lines and plots. My film is in the same sub-genre as goodfellas which is a crime-thriller so we can see from his past favourite films that he is likely to also be a fan of my film which is similar to his favourites. As John is a big gamer and loves his games and apps his favourite include:  'Clash of war', 'Call of duty' and 'Grand theft Auto'. All these game have the same connotations in common violence, guns, shooting and death, which all feature in my film which is about the mafia and heavily features violence, guns, shooting and death. I believe that based on all his hobbies, likes, occupation, age and gender John Allen is the perfect audience member and it is highly likely he will like and enjoy my film.

Figuring out my target and secondary target audience

We figured this out via our own market research which is represented in the pie charts above, along with collecting data from the IMDB profiles of two films that are very similar two ours and seeing their target audiences.

IMDB profile - 'Goodfellas

IMDB profile - The God Father

As part of our target audience research in a previous post, i looked at the IMDB profiles off the movies 'The God Father' and 'Goodfellas'. The reason theses two movie were chose to base our research on was due to the fact they are in the same genre and thee key words on their profiles both include: 'mafia', 'crime', 'organised crime' and 'rise and fall'. These are the words they had in common but other words such as 'cold blood murder' and 'Patriarch' are just as fitting. All of these words would/ phrases would perfectly describe my films genre and plot. This means that we can confidently assume that we would share an almost identical target audience. It is quite clear from the first piece of data that 'Goodfellas' is a lot more popular with the male audience then the female audience this is shown by

The males heavily out voted the female audience and with a higher average rating as well. This is mainly because this type of violent, gangster film with a lot of death is more suited to a male audience who enjoy this sought of film more regularly then the average female. This is why we would consider the majority of our audience to be a male audience and hence why 'John Allen' my perfect audience member is a male.

My film is rated a 15 which means are age ranges will start at 15+ and not below. From looking at the two pieces of data we collected and more closely at 'The God Father' data we can see that the age group that is most popular is: males aged 18-29

Males aged between 18-29 is the most popular and therefore are main target audience range because firstly it is heavily represented meaning lots of people enjoyed the film with . Furthermore it gave the highest average rating as well so with its heavy representation and its high average rating i have concluded that our main target audience range would be males between 18-29.

But using this data it is also clear that are secondary audience is males aged 30-44, this is clear because they had a very slim but higher vote turnout then males aged 18-29 but voted it an average of 9.2 which is lower then the 18-29 so i have concluded that our secondary target audience would be a male aged 30-44. We also did market research interviewing different aged groups and genders which is represented in the pie charts above and are result were very similar to the ones from the two movies similar to our.

An example of a secondary audience member of my film

This is the facebook page of 'John Monestere'  who is 42 and lives in California

                                                                        Joe's favourite films:

                                             Favourite TV programmes:

                                                                   Favourite sports:

                                                       Joe's likes on facebook:

                                                         Joe's groups on facebook:

Why Joe is a perfect secondary audience member example

Firstly Joe is a 42 year old male which fits into the secondary audience target range. Through looking at his various hobbies, likes and groups on facebook i can confidently say he would enjoy my movie and go watch it. Firstly and most importantly one of his favourite films that he likes on facebook is 'Goodfellas' which was a huge inspiration to my film and very similar highlighting he very much likes the film genre that my film is in and also =most of the other films he likes are very gangster based similar to mine. Another interesting part to highlight under his favourite sport he has 'Jerry Miculek' who has won 45 world titles in shooting and is known for being one of the best all-round shooters on the planet. This is very telling as this clearly shows he loves violence, guns and shooting which are all key aspects and connotations that feature in my film. Again following a similar theme a few of his general likes on facebook include: 'guns direct shop', 'Beretta 92FS' and 'handguns magazine'. This also emphasises his love for guns and shooting which shows he will really enjoy the main themes of my movie. Lastly among the four groups on facebook that Joe is apart of their is 'A beginners guide to firearms' which again highlights his passion for guns and violence, but also 'The movies', which is a movie review group which tells me he really like movies and is very interested in watching and hearing about lots of different movies and is a big fan. His love for violence and guns along with his passion for movies, coinciding with his age and gender make Joe the perfect secondary audience member as he would love the themes in my movie as the heavily correlate to his likes and hobbies.
